Currently the only type of mangoes exported by Haiti is the Francis. The Francis mangoes can only be grown in Haiti. Mango consumers find the particular sweetness and texture of the Francis irresistable. The Francis season starts from February and ends in August. The harvest region moves northwards across the Haitian island as the season progresses. The average mango weights about 450 grams or 1 lb. The mango is to be consumed when the color is uniformly yellow and soft to the touch. The Francis can be eaten fresh or dried, as a snack or a wonderful addition to dishes. All mangoes are hot-water treated according to USDA standards.
